Ford Sierra Cosworth

RS500

The RS500 had the following differences from the Sierra Cosworth:

Tougher engine block

Garrett T04 turbocharger

Larger intercooler

Eight-injector fuel injector

Upgraded fuel pump

Remapped engine management

In the road going version the differences were not very noticeable. The engine produced 224bhp, only 20 above the simple version. Also it was very laggy and a bit tiring to drive in the road. But the potential for the races was enormous. The racing RS500s produced 550bhp very easy and the engine could stand turbo pressures over 2.5bar!

The RS500 was the fastest of all Sierras with 154mph top speed and 5.1sec for 0-62mph. Some people ask if they can make it quicker. How quick you want it to be? The costs are much higher from the standard Cossie, but over 600bhp can be produced from this engine. The highest bhp figure that even got from an RS500 was 900+bhp in gravel racing in Japan (I think).

For the history the 500 RS500s that were produced were:

The following pictures are from the RS500s. if you can try to notice the external differences that the RS500 had from the standard Cosworth (extra lower front spoiler, extra back spoiler, no fog lights)
